YELLO STROM / WECHSELN BRINGT WATT / SWITCHING WORTH WATT
On the open market in Germany the supplier of electric energy battle for customers with offers
from 20 to 100 €. Signing a new contract with Yello Strom for only 40 € credit was a small attraction. But translating the money into kilowatt hours and revealing what people can actually do with it made a huge difference. For instance: with 200 kWh extra you can boil 48.000 eggs,
brew 14.000 cups of fresh coffee, drill 20.000 holes into a wall, play e-guitar for 2.000 hours or
take a warm shower for 500 minutes…
(The german "Wechseln bringt WATT" has a double meaning: "Switching is worth SOMETHING." and "Switching gets you WATT." – so in order to get the ideas across let's go with "Switching worth watt.")
VO TRANSLATION: "Get 200 kilowatt-hours for free - enough electricity for 48.000 hard-boiled eggs. Switching worth watt. Yello Strom (Yellow. Good. Inexpensive.)"
/ On the shelves of supermarkets we had the chance to follow up. /
THE COPY ALWAYS TRANSLATES MORE OR LESS TO:
"Switching to Yello Strom is worth watt, 200 kWh extra - enough electricity for…"
/ For the print ads we linked the message to the magazines they're published in. /
/ And the outdoor advertisements brought the messages to life. /
/ Additionally we created the "kWh-spinning-wheel" for different power consumptions and distributed
it as an insert in magazines and as direct mail. With that we not only translated the electricity credit of 200 kWh (equaling 40 €) for switching to Yello Strom to people's daily lifes, we also passed on some knowledge about the value and power of a kWh. /
